The following descriptions give the personality tone of the species. These are pretty much inviolate. A dwarf can no more have a Greed of 3 than a human can have Greed of 14. If you want a dwarf with low Greed, high Sense of Humour and low Mood, then you don't want a dwarf.

Even if you don't desire to play a spell-casting Enchanter, every character should know their Mojo (MJ) Attribute. This is ascertained by taking the average of your character's ST (Strength) and IQ (Intelligence). The resulting number is then reduced by a certain amount, depending on the species you're playing. We follow proper arithmetic, of course, rounding up or down as indicated.

RATLING (mus mutandis)

Ratlings are small, irritating and usually potbellied. Most are very peculiar sorts but some go adventuring-and a few can be found working scams in any big city. Almost all ratlings are untrustworthy.

The typical ratling has a rather large nose and weak chin. They are prone to overbites and buckteeth. Their ears are big. Female and male ratlings have about 50% more body hair than one would see on an adult human male, though it is generally of a fine texture.

Their general appearance and mangy hair makes the elves and chuns say the ratlings are related to humans. Humans and dwarves point out how similar a ratling and goblin are, with the hair being the only major difference. Both heartily deny a blood relation.

Only an innate nimbleness, hardiness and fast talking have allowed ratlings to survive as a species. Only the kindest of individuals will trust a ratling. Therefore, these rodent people receive a minus 1 on any Reaction Roll with an intelligent being or "normal" animal. There are few ratling nations or settlements.

Maximum Sensitivity: 8     Maximum Honesty: 8      Minimum Greed: 4

A beginning ratling has ST: 4 DX: 12 IQ: 8 with 6 points. MA: 10. A ratling's ST cannot go above 10 without magic.

Average height: 120 cm.
Average weight: 45 Kg.

The large ears take one point off the cost of Acute Hearing.

Their eyesight and agile fingers give ratlings an aptitude for deft work. Minus one point off the cost of Goldsmith, Alchemy, Chemist, Bard, Thief and Thrown Weapons. Other "Mundane Talents" may also be eligible for a bonus. Discuss it with the GM.

Ratlings are "small" characters for determining armour weight. They consume only 1/2 a ration per day.

A ratling's Mojo Attribute is the Average of IQ and ST minus 2.

TROLL (chonis immanis)

Trolls are large, powerful brutes with broad, ape-like features: heavy eye-brow ridge over tiny eyes, large jaws, wide shoulders and thick arms. In a nutshell, there is nothing delicate or refined in a troll's appearance. Their skin, with tribal variations in shade, is green. Their hair is shaggy and a deep green-black.

Troll tribes and kingdoms are rough and rude and usually off the beaten track. Like reptaurs, trolls come across as primitives and suffer the same -1 on a Reaction Roll in the mainstream world. But where a typical reptaur has a certain "noble savage" quality, a troll usually radiates "crude thug".

Obnoxious and arrogant, trolls are very full of themselves and exceptionally conscious of their personal status. They have deep insecurity about ridicule (katagelophobia). Considering their size, troll teasing is not a common pastime. In the end, this makes many trolls to be loud-mouthed bully types.

Trolls love shadows or darkness (scotophilia). Trolls are +1adjDX for any darkness penalties compared to unaided races. Conversely, a particularly bright sunny environment without handy shade will give a troll -1 adjDX.

Maximum Sensitivity: 8     Maximum Friendly: 9      Maximum Sense of Humour: 8

A beginning troll has ST: 13 DX: 8 IQ: 7 with 8 points. MA: 8.
The thick emerald skin stops 1 hit.
Trolls cannot raise their IQ above 10 without magic.

Average height: 185 cm.
Average weight: 145 Kg.

Trolls are "large" characters for determining armour weight. They consume 1 1/2 rations per day.

A troll character requires 175% of the Experience Points a human needs until its attribute total reaches 40. Above 40 attribute points, the cost drops to 100%.

A troll's Mojo Attribute is the Average of IQ and ST minus 5.
